A Time To Give

Christmas is here again. It’s a season for merry making. It’s a season for rejoicing. It’s the season when you let others know how much they mean to you. It’s a season to give back.

For me, Christmas is a secular and inclusive holiday that centres on friends, food and fun. For many, it’s also a religious holiday but for most, it’s a welcome break, a time to enjoy the dazzling lights.

Christmas is also about charitable giving. However, it seems that our society only remembers to give during the holiday season. Does that mean that if we didn’t have the holidays, we wouldn’t give at all? Indeed, it will be lamentable if the holiday season is just a yearly reminder to think about those in need.

Many people look at the holiday season as a time to give back to the less fortunate, but issues such as hunger and poverty, last all year long. The holiday season can be the roughest time of the year for many people. Children will still need clothes in January and a broken family will still be hungry long after Christmas.

Perhaps, it’s high time that we should carry out our charitable act on a more regular basis for as long as we have the ability and time to do so.

We all have much to be thankful for and much to share. Open your heart and know you can make a difference. Start giving back this Christmas and make it a long-term commitment rather than a one-off gesture.

Merry Giving, Continue Giving!
